The old saying used to be that everything is big in the US. But where things are really big is in China. It is not just because of the size of the country – but more about how Chinese government and policy impacts business opportunities. China is currently on a highway to hell. The environment in many areas is extremely polluted. The dependency on fossil fuel is growing faster than the economy. China is currently giving unsustainable growth a face.
But the Chinese leaders are well aware of this fact, and they intend to change it. In the Hunan province, three cities have been designated experimental zones for energy saving and environmentally friendly programmes. (Read about it here.) So currently these cities are being turned into a giant sand box to create the sustainable solutions that will then be rolled-out over China. And the need for cooperation with western cleantech companies, universities and investors is great of course. This is a huge opportunity for companies that feel that they can stand up to the challenge and start to work in the scale expected.
